Look, Listen, Teach, Grow
With the help of Birthright Armenia, I was able to spend four incredible months in the homeland of my ancestors during the second half of 2013. Along with working as a volunteer for the Little Singers of Armenia and Teach For Armenia, learning to play Duduk, and immersing myself as much as possible in the regional music of Armenia, I designed and facilitated a 10 week workshop at Tumo Center For Creative Technologies.

During this workshop, I worked with about 10 students in an after school program on crafting their own original songs. At the end of our time together, we gathered friends and family for a community showcase of their work. It was a beautiful night and I am still incredibly proud of what the students were able to create and perform with confidence. Of course not everything was perfect, but each student got up to share their voice with the world, and that alone is something very special. The student recordings are not yet available for download, but feel free to check out a little bit of what went on during our ten weeks at Tumo.
